As one of 40 million ex-Catholic Evangelical Protestants, I cannot sing hallelujahs loudly enough for this duo, Throckmorton and Coulter. David Barton's attempt to tear down the only wall of protection we have against the Vatican's growing "Roman-American Catholic" vote added dangerous fuel to Watergate jailbird Chuck Colson's firestorm on the American Protestant church. Kudos to Thomas Nelson for pulling the book!

I trust the Vatican is weeping at this setback to its relentless attempt to replace our U.S. Constitution with its wicked Canon Law.

"But constitutions can be changed, and non-Catholic sects may decline to such a point that the political proscription [i.e., outlawing] of them may become feasible and expedient. What protection would they have then against a Catholic State?"

Thank you for writing this antidote to Barton. Im a staunch Jeffersonian and no leftist by any means. Having said that I totally agree with Dr Jay Richards' endorsement. One error does not justify another one. I purchased Barton's book against my better judgement after reading some of his opinions which I thought were straining credulity. Actually, Im glad I have it as it can stand in my bookshelf as another piece of evidence of how even in the pursuit of a worthy goal, namely defending Jefferson against liberal revionism, bad scholarship is never justified. Good for Thomas Nelson Publishers and Thockmorton and Coulter.

One question that someone should ask Barton is this: has he ever done research at the Amrican Antiquarian Society, Library Co. of Philadelphia, Harvard/Houghton, Yale/Beinecke, Princeton, Library of Congress, etc.---at any of the huge repositories of books & mss on early America? Barton likes to talk about his "collection" of documents, but he can't maintain that his research is adequate if he hasn't been a reader at these libraries. Also, will someone please ask him which books he has read by Foucault or Derrida or Wellek?
